Q

What are the key trends happening in the data center today?

Cloud data center expert Marshall Bartoszek details key trends in the data center space, such as the significant role virtualization plays in building and revamping data centers.

What are the key trends happening in the data center today?

Of course, virtualization is a significant trend in the data center. Virtualization has created the need to retool all of the supporting systems within the data center from management tools, security, network infrastructure, servers, storage, etc. Servers are now able to operate at their full capacity, putting pressure on network performance. Security and networking teams that work within a virtualized environment have new sets of challenges that need to be met by better management tools and training. Distributed file systems have provided an opportunity for storage manufacturers to demonstrate a roadmap that embraces the ability to support the current systems while providing better shared storage systems in the future.

Certain enterprises have decided that their business models fit moving to a distributed file system like Lustre. You can find use cases like this with data mining applications, high-frequency trading houses, genetic compound manufacturing, and oil and gas exploration, among other uses.
