Q

Why should optical networks become more agile and flexible?

ACG Research managing partner Eve Griliches details the benefits and costs for service providers considering deploying more agile and flexible optical networks.

Why should optical networks become more agile and flexible? What are the benefits and what are the costs?

The benefits of more agile optical networks result directly in the business case for additional revenue for service providers—faster provisioning, better use of bandwidth, increased reliability and a more efficient and "defragmented" network. Costs may come in deployment and equipment. Service providers will have to carefully weight this cost/benefit ratio to understand if their own business is ready for more agility, as well.
