The benefits of more agile optical networks result directly in the business case for additional revenue for service providers—faster provisioning, better use of bandwidth, increased reliability and a more efficient and "defragmented" network. Costs may come in deployment and equipment. Service providers will have to carefully weight this cost/benefit ratio to understand if their own business is ready for more agility, as well.
